The story

Different fields. Same discipline.

Jason did not begin his career selling building technology. He began by learning how to understand complex systems, measure what is happening, and organize people around a practical result.

His scientific training at Stony Brook University led to field research and public-sector program leadership. At the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, he managed a $1.8 million federal grant and coordinated more than 40 research projects involving over 200 fishermen. The work required technical judgment, disciplined documentation, and the ability to earn trust across groups with very different priorities.

At the U.S. Department of Energy, that responsibility expanded to national energy programs. Jason reviewed and oversaw more than $330 million in energy-efficiency and renewable-energy grants, managed building portfolio analysis, and led a $15 million competitive program focused on improving public buildings.

The setting has changed—from marine research, to federal energy programs, to connected buildings—but the core work is familiar: understand the system, define the plan, coordinate the people, manage the risk, and deliver something that performs in the real world.

After earning degrees in Biology and Coastal Oceanography, Jason moved from marine research into program leadership—managing a $1.8 million federal grant, more than 40 cooperative research projects, and work involving over 200 commercial and recreational fishermen.

Building the Powers name

From early ioT to national delivery.

Jason founded Powers ioT in 2013, at the beginning of the connected-home market’s rapid growth. The company built a network of more than 100 certified HVAC, electrical, and audiovisual technicians across 25 major U.S. cities.

That network supported multifamily, single-family, and white-glove residential work while giving Jason firsthand experience with the point where product promises meet drawings, field conditions, software, technicians, property staff, and residents.

Over time, the Powers name became familiar to multifamily integration platforms and technology manufacturers. Those relationships continue to generate referrals when owners need experienced help maintaining, stabilizing, or replacing building-technology systems.
